I want to thank everyone that sent in their data on Buddy Slim; for their participation and the mountain of data sent to me to help make this experiment/ research come together. A lot of users have been eager to see what the data says from the surveys point to. Also, this in no way is a professional poll or whatever, but the data is very interesting. I would like to say that I was very surprised by the results. I actually had to check the results against any available real science data out there. And the available science and research actually agreed with the results of the Buddy Slim survey results. This was odd to me, because it is actually the direct opposite of what most health and diet “professionals” are saying out there.
So here are the data results. 248 Buddy Slim users participated by getting me their data. The data requested was as follows: What are you eating on a daily basis? How much total time do you spend on exercise a week? How much weight have you loss since beginning?
Three primary dietary habits stood out. There were a few others, which I will put into a “Other” category in Diet Catergory #3.
The three dietary habits, or types are: 1) Complex, not processed Starches and Carbs. Fresh veggies and fruits. Lean Non-Red meats. (This was the largest category of diet followed about 80%) 2) Low Carbs or Zero Carbs. Fresh veggies and fruit. Lean Non-Red meats. 3) “Other”. Calorie Counting. Eat pretty much anything in no particular quantity or “Other” which was mostly vegan. Also included a few listed as anorexia.
Buddy Slim Users consuming Diet #1) consisting of Complex, not processed Starches and Carbs. Fresh veggies and fruits. Lean Non-Red meats. These users had a mean (average) weight loss of 57.75 pounds (lbs.). These Buddy Slim users spent an average of 6.5 hours a week in cardio/ exercise.
Buddy Slim Users consuming Diet #2) ) Low Carbs or Zero Carbs. Fresh veggies and fruit. Lean Non-Red meats. These users had a mean weight loss of 13.65 pounds (lbs.). And spent an average of 2.5 hours a week doing cardio/ exercise.
Buddy Slim Users consuming Diet #3) “Other”. Calorie Counting. Eat pretty much anything in no particular quantity or “Other” which was mostly vegan. Also included a few listed as anorexia. These users had a mean weight loss of 28 pounds (lbs.). And spent an average of 4 hours a week doing cardio/ exercise.
Very interesting results I think. Shocked me, as I am in Diet group #3. Vegan. I tell people to eat no meat, no dairy, no animal products at all. Which I believe is good, But the data shows that Diet #1 combined with at least an hour a day of exercise is best. Users consuming complex carbs and starches, fresh fruits and veggies with lean non-red meats, lost on average 43% more weight than users on a No carb, or a low carb diet. They also spent on average four more hours per week exercising/ doing cardio. The very interesting thing that the results showed that I didn’t expect, is that Users abiding to Diet #3 which followed no particular diet habits, and a majority ate whatever they wanted, lost on average 50% more weight than users on a low carb/ zero carb diet and spent 1.5 more hours per week exercising. Also interesting, is that the users employing anorexia as their diet habit, lost on average only 3 pounds during a 12 month period. In fact, the data showed that four out of the six, actually gained weight during the same period. The low carb diet thing really had me confused; until I did some real research on it. After all, hasn’t Atkins had us all convinced that low carbs or zero carbs is the way to go? What I discovered was, that all the leading research done in the last 30 years, says the opposite of the Atkins, lo carb/ zero carb diet. In fact recently, nutritionist PhD’s from Tuft University cited that low carb diets lower the blood glucose and glycogen levels in the brain. This causes increased mental and memory impairment and extreme fatigue. How many of your buddy slim friends are always saying they have “No Energy”? Also, according to Dr. Jay Gordon of the UCLA School of Medicine, low carb or zero carb diets deplete the body of needed “fuel levels to sustain exercise and cardio activity.” This would go to explain why the Buddy Slim Experiment results showed that those on a low carb/ zero carb diet exercised on average 4 hours less a week than those that consume carbs. But doesn’t this make sense once you think about it. What do athletes consume before their sport? A steak? Only Fresh Veggies? Or maybe a baked potato or some pasta? They consume complex carbs. It appears, that essentially what happens, is that the body and brain do not have enough fuel from blood glucose levels to sustain energy for the dieter to exercise on a regular basis for the low carb/ zer carb dieter. This lack of exercise results in lower weight loss results compared to those not following any diet at all, or those not restricting their carb intake. I believe these results show that the real weight loss component or “secret” here is the exercise combined with good diet habits. Those who had no diet preference at all, lost more weight than those that consumed the low carb/ zero carb diet, and half the weight of those consuming diet #1.
Thanks for participating, Jason
